First retailers open at Phase 2 of South Oxhey Central

The first retailers in Phase 2 of South Oxhey Central, the £218m town centre development being delivered by Countryside in partnership with Home Group and Three Rivers District Council, have now opened, alongside a new market square.
Known as Market Place, these new retail spaces add to the 19 retailers at Station Approach and future Lidl supermarket that are also part of South Oxhey Central.
Comprising five retail units, 8,000 sq ft of commercial space has now been completed, along with a new and improved market square that will serve as a hub for market stalls and community events. Nisa Local and BetAnsells have now completed their fitouts and are open for trading, with Aziz Barbers, M R K Heating & Plumbing Supplies and Esom Pharmacy to open before the end of the year.
Retaining and enhancing the local identity of the area was a key part of the plans for South Oxhey Central, also ensuring that the local community benefits from a continued retail offering. This has been maintained in Market Place, with four of the five new retail units being let to existing retailers and the other unit a new venture by a local businessperson. These shops add to the existing and varied offering of 19 retailers in Station Approach, a 20,000 sq ft retail and workspace destination, which completed in 2019.
Progress has also been swift on the 174 new homes in the second phase of South Oxhey Central, with the first private apartments completing in September, following the 48 affordable home completions earlier this year.
Daniel King, Managing Director, Partnerships West London and Thames Valley, Countryside, said: “We’re proud to continue our transformation of South Oxhey, as we open the next phase of retail units and welcome further residents to the development. A thriving retail scene plays a key role in our vision for South Oxhey Central, and so opening these new shops and the market square is of prime importance. With 20,000 sq ft of retail already open at Station Approach and a new Lidl supermarket to come in Phase 3, we aren’t just building homes but instead ensuring a successful and sustainable South Oxhey community. Furthermore, while we make these changes we are committed to retaining the local character of the area, so we’re delighted to retain a number of existing retailers such as M R K Heating & Plumbing Supplies, who have now been trading in South Oxhey for 42 years.”
Sarah Nelmes, Leader of Three Rivers District Council, commented: “I'm so pleased to see these beautiful new shops opening for the benefit of the residents of South Oxhey. I'm proud that our partnership with Countryside and Home Group is helping to deliver the attractive shopping area our residents deserve.”
Raj Oulakh, Nisa Local Franchise Owner, added: “After four years of planning and anticipation, I’m delighted to finally open my Nisa foodstore in Market Place. The building looks fantastic and I’m pleased I invested in a high-end shop fit-out to match the quality of the development. I’m looking forward to trading here for a number of years and serving the community. It’s great to see the area transform bit by bit and you can see how it’s all coming together.”
When fully complete, South Oxhey Central will consist of a total of 659 new homes and in excess of 55,000 sq ft of commercial space, set across two acres of landscaped public spaces. Nearly 200 new homes have been delivered to date at South Oxhey Central, comprising 96 homes for social rent and 21 homes for shared ownership, and over 70 private homes.
Eight one-bedroom apartments remain in the current phase of South Oxhey Central, with prices starting from £275,000 and Help to Buy available. Countryside is also offering to pay a 5% deposit contribution on selected plots. To find out more, please speak to our sales team on [email protected] or 020 3944 4166.
