Countryside Supports Waltham Forest’s Platinum Jubilee Opening Event and Beacon Lighting

Waltham Forest Jubilee celebrations

Leading mixed-tenure developer Countryside was very proud to support the London Borough of Waltham Forest’s Platinum Jubilee opening event and beacon lighting on 2nd June 2022.

Hosted at the Waltham Forest Town Hall, the opening event launched the borough’s bank holiday celebrations with an evening of entertainment in the beautiful surroundings of Fellowship Square.

Waltham Forest hosted a fantastic selection of live entertainment including:

  • Platinum Jubilee Fountain Medley show, a brand new fountain show to a musical soundtrack taking the audience on a journey through the seven decades of the Queen’s reign, around the Commonwealth and back again!
  • An enlightening performance exploring the history of black classical musicians through the medium of performing arts from the award-winning X7eaven Academy, showcasing East London’s incredible talented young performers
  • Young people from the L.E.A.D.E.R.S Community showcasing their phenomenal dance talent
  • The Hi Lo Singers, eight incredible singers conducted by Jonathan Rathbone, who filled the square with new arrangements of classic tunes for the audience to enjoy as dusk fell

To bring the occasion to a memorable finale, the audience gathered to observe the beacon being lit by the Mayor of Waltham Forest Madame Mayor Cllr Karen Bellamy, as thousands of beacons throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK Overseas Territories and within each of the Commonwealth Countries were also lit to mark this historic occasion.

Speaking of the event, Cllr Ahsan Khan, Deputy Leader of Waltham Forest Council and Cabinet Member for Housing and Regeneration, said:

“It was a pleasure to celebrate HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with so many of our residents at Fellowship Square. At the same time as we mark 70 years of public service, we are looking forward with our partners Countryside, who generously sponsored the Jubilee launch event, as we work together to deliver a new public space in the heart of Walthamstow with much-needed new housing, retail outlets, and workspaces that will benefit everyone who lives, works, or studies in Waltham Forest.”

Kevin Delve, Managing Director, East London, Countryside, said:

“The Platinum Jubilee bank holiday was a wonderful opportunity to bring communities together and so we were very pleased to support Waltham Forest’s Platinum Jubilee opening and Beacon Lighting event at the Town Hall. Working in partnership with Waltham Forest Council to transform the Town Hall into a brand new neighbourhood and cultural hub in the heart of the borough, this was a very fitting opportunity to illustrate our support for Fellowship Square as the borough’s cultural hub. It was a fantastic event and really set the mood for the festivities that followed!”
