Countryside secures planning permission for final 424 homes at new Oxford community, Barton Park

planning permission for Barton Park

Countryside has secured approval to deliver the final phase of homes at Barton Park, a major housing development in Headington, Oxford.

Named Beckley Place, Countryside’s new development within the neighbourhood will bring 424 homes, including a range of one and two-bedroom apartments and three, four and five-bedroom houses.

In addition, Countryside will deliver approximately 6,2000 sq ft of retail space, with 40% of the total homes to be sold to Oxford City Council for 176 social rent homes.

Beckley Place will be built in line with the site-wide design code set by Grosvenor and the council,  ensuring a consistently high standard of development across Barton Park. Taking inspiration from nearby Oxford, materials include Headington Hardstone – a smooth limestone used in some of the city’s most historic buildings – alongside shell pebble beds and Beckley sand.

Barton Oxford LLP, a joint venture between Grosvenor Property UK and Oxford City Council, is responsible for master planning the new neighbourhood of Barton Park - providing new homes alongside green open space and community facilities for new and existing residents.

Fast becoming a well-established community, there is a sports pavilion, sports pitch and linear park already open for community use, with several hundred residents calling the estate home.

Countryside will launch Beckley Place to the market later this year, the first release of which is set to be a collection of three and four-bedroom homes.

Andy Barron, Managing Director, Western Home Counties, Countryside, comments We’re delighted to have received planning approval for the final two phases of our upcoming development Barton Park. We are very proud to be collaborating with Grosvenor Property UK and Oxford City Council to create this thriving new neighbourhood, utilising our expertise in sustainable communities to create places people love.”

Louisa Nie, Senior Development Manager for Strategic Land at Grosvenor Property UK, said: “This planning approval is a fantastic step forward in realising our vision with Oxford City Council for the community at Barton Park, delivering 424 much-needed homes as well as amenities for people already living in the area and new residents.  Throughout the development we’ve aimed to create a place that people can be proud of – with fantastic community spaces to support happy and healthy lifestyles and a commitment to high-quality design across the new neighbourhood.”

Councillor Alex Hollingsworth, Oxford City Council cabinet member for planning and housing delivery, said:The approval of planning permission for Beckley Place unlocks the final major piece of the master developer approach we’ve adopted with Grosvenor to deliver 885 much-needed homes at Barton Park, together with high quality green spaces, shops, community and leisure facilities.  When complete, Barton Park will include 354 homes for social rent let by our housing company, Oxford City Housing Ltd (OCHL). OCHL’s homes on Barton Park will be part of a new generation of more than 1,000 new council homes in the next decade, the first significant development of council homes in Oxford since the 1970s.”
