Countryside and its partners join forces to give St John’s School in Hackney a summer makeover

Countryside, has championed its commitment to the local community by delivering a summer revamp of St John the Baptist CofE Primary School in Hackney, in time for the start of the new school year. This makeover was part of the 60 days that Countryside employees are spending on voluntary and charitable activities this year, to mark Countryside's 60th anniversary.

Across July and August, the Countryside supply chain was hard at work fitting a brand-new kitchen, as well as repainting school interiors. 15 Countryside employees, supported by sub-contractors from the company's supply chain, volunteered to make key changes to the school, while landscapers Acer Landscapes transformed the school's outdoor play area with the voluntary team, installing new flooring and play equipment, removing debris and planting new foliage. Three classrooms, the kitchen and stairwell were repainted, with the help of DP Lawless Painting and Decorating, while the new carpeting in the classrooms was provided by LLA Brown & Sons. Kitchen providers Nobilia GB will also be fitting a new school kitchen before the end of the month.

The volunteer team then helped to put the classrooms back together, ready for the return of early years children in a few weeks' time as the new school year begins.

Andy Fancy, Managing Director for Partnerships South, North & South London at Countryside, commented: "The revamp of St John the Baptist school was a great example of the commitment to the communities and the areas in which we operate that we have demonstrated over the past 60 years. While we are regenerating the nearby St Leonard's Court, our approach goes far beyond simply building homes, and so we are proud to have made a positive difference to this outstanding school.

"It is testament to both our collaborative approach and our brilliant supply chain that we received so much help from our subcontractors; we really couldn't have done this without them. Hopefully this refurbishment provides a little bit of excitement for the pupils and teachers going back to school in a couple of weeks' time – it's certainly been an exciting challenge for us!"
