Young professional interior designs dream home at Rochester Riverside

Six years into his career, working for a London-based insurance syndicate, Malvir Kalsi decided it was time to get on the property ladder. Originally from Rainham, Kent, he’s been living with his family since graduating from university and was keen to buy somewhere with good transport links to London. Despite not having worked from his office in Bank since the start of the pandemic, he knew he would need to commute to work between two and three times a week once things go back to normal.

“I didn’t have a specific location in mind but definitely wanted to reduce my commuting time to the office. My parents’ house is 15 minutes away from the train station, so my door-to-door commute was taking well over an hour,” said Malvir.

Malvir embarked on a property search journey and one day decided to visit Rochester Riverside, a new development just a 20-minute drive from his parents’ house that he’d frequently driven past.

“I took a walk around the development and visited the marketing suite. I was impressed with what I saw – unlike some of the other new build projects in Kent we’d visited before, where all apartment blocks and houses looked the same, Rochester Riverside had plenty of character,” said Malvir.

Another reason why Rochester Riverside seemed like a good option for Malvir was because he knew the town very well and still had many friends living in the area, with whom he regularly plays hockey at his former secondary school.

“I also liked the fact that the train station was right outside, which means I can significantly reduce my journey time to London – it only takes 40 mins from Rochester to the capital,” added Malvir.

After exploring the properties on offer, Malvir set his eyes on a two-bedroom apartment with a balcony overlooking the River Medway. “Even though it’s an apartment, there is a strong sense of privacy, which I immediately liked,” he said. “It came with a free parking place, which is a huge bonus. Some of the other developments I looked at would only offer a parking spot for a separate charge of around £25,000, which is a big expense, especially if you’re a first-time buyer,” added Malvir.

He was thrilled to learn that Countryside would also be offering a generous interior design service and a furniture package in partnership with BoConcept as part of his property purchase. “I’m planning to use one of the bedrooms as a home office and thought that getting professional interior design advice would really help me figure out the right arrangements,” said Malvir.

Malvir’s furniture package includes a king-size bed, a table, chairs, a sofa, a coffee table and a TV unit, all of which he was able to choose himself, following a consultation with a BoConcept interior designer.

“It was a very smooth and straight-forward process. After an email exchange, I came into BoConcept’s show room in Tottenham Court Road for an in-person appointment, where we went through a range of different options. That really helped me get a better idea of what I’d need in my new home,” said Malvir.

There is no shortage of things to do and places to go in Rochester. An avid runner, Malvir will be able to enjoy pleasant riverside views on his run, as well playing golf in the area.

In addition to that, Rochester High Street, a short walk away from the development, is brimming with restaurants, cafes and independent shops, where local residents can find everything they need without having to venture further afield.

Since the start of construction works in February 2019, Rochester Riverside has transformed beyond recognition, having turned into a thriving community. It now has a Travelodge hotel, Costa Coffee and an on-site Co-op supermarket, offering buyers a range of essentials right on their doorstep.

Over the next 12 years, Countryside and Hyde will be providing further homes and facilities for residents and the wider Rochester community by unlocking what used to be an industrial site along the River Medway.
