Located in Lea Castle, close to the villages of Cookley and Wolverley, the former hospital was previously used as a military camp during World War Two and most recently, it has been used as a care home for people with mental health issues.
The NHS closed Lea Castle Hospital in 2008 and the site has been redundant ever since. The brownfield site is located just North of Kidderminster town centre and benefits from close proximity to Blakedown Station which provides direct services to Birmingham City Centre.
The development will provide a range of new homes, enhance the existing landscaping, introduce a proposed new cycle lane linking into Broadwaters and improve the existing road widths and layout.
Of the 600 new homes, 240 will be affordable and 360 will be for open market sale by Linden Homes and Bovis Homes.
Works commenced in April 2020 for a period of 8 years.
Commenting on the achievement, Darren Beale, Managing Director Vistry Partnerships West Midlands, said:
“We are delighted to be recognised at a National level for our Lea Castle development.
We have gone above and beyond the norm by creating something which allows wildlife and people to live together in perfect harmony by placing sustainability at the heart of all decision making”.
