Three top trends for 2020 Christmas decor

Christmas at Countryside

This year it seems we’re all looking to spread an extra touch of Christmas joy and are pulling out all the stops when it comes to our festive interiors.

If you’ve not dusted off yours yet, or are in need of some style inspiration, then read on as we’ve picked our favourite festive trends to help you create the perfect seasonal look.

There’s a real sentiment and wish to celebrate all that comforts us this year - with re-runs of our favourite films, spending quality time with our loved ones and creating the all-important Christmas backdrop to fill us with a warm and cosy feeling.

We’ve picked out our favourites that are not only worthy of an Instagram post or two but will help set the scene for your home this Christmas. For a design-led look, remember to keep the theme consistent throughout, so it seamlessly flows from the wreath on your front door to your dressed dining table.

  1. Nostalgic

The classic green tree is a failsafe staple when it comes to your festive focal point. Team green with rich reds and a hint of gold for that nostalgic feel of a Christmas past. Tacky tinsel has also been replaced with red berries and delicate golden leaves.

Use garlands of fake foliage to dress bannisters and tables and, to inject atmosphere, consider adding lanterns and soft lighting. Poinsettias are making a comeback this year too - we love the mini varieties used in groups of three or five to create colour and impact.

  1. Naturally Nordic

Scandi design continues to be a key interior style that many homeowners choose to help create a cool and calm environment.

When it comes to your Christmas decorations, consider a neutral and tonal palette of cream, white and pewter, with a tree adorned with very simple and natural decorations such as; pine cones, woven wooden stars, candle lights and simple glass baubles. The overall look is less is more, but to create a cosy and inviting home that is super stylish, use faux-fur throws and scents of cinnamon to achieve that full hygge feeling.

  1. Purple Reign

Whilst the Nordic look is all about simplicity, this bolder theme is definitely ‘more is more’! Using one of the many jewel shades of purple, such as aubergine or plum, choose decorations that are highly embellished and give a feel of opulence. We love velvet bows, feathers and anything that has glitter on it - not only for the tree but also for table decorations and the wreath. The styling is purposefully over the top but adds to the wow factor. This look can be teamed with accents of gold or silver depending on your preference.
