Kirkby family spring onto the property ladder with Help to Buy

First time buyers Carmen & Stefan at Highfield Place

After renting for 20 long years, first time buyers, Carmen and Stefan have finally found their forever home at Countryside’s Highfield Place in Kirkby, thanks to the Government-backed Help to Buy: Equity Loan scheme.

With changes being made to the scheme in 2021, Carmen (43) and Stefan (47) knew it was now or never to make their move onto the ladder and take advantage of the opportunity.

The couple used the scheme to move out of London and into the home and lifestyle they always dreamed of up north, with their children Jessica (16) and James (12).

Carmen commented: “We began saving towards the deposit for our first home when we were living in London but despite having good jobs, we couldn’t afford to buy the home we wanted in the capital. We needed somewhere more affordable, with much more space, and a better work-life balance to be honest!

“My husband, Stefan, came across the Help To Buy scheme and found Highfield Place online. We spoke to the Countryside who explained everything really clearly and we were actually able to do most of the process virtually, online. It was really simple.

With the Help to Buy: Equity Loan scheme, the government will lend you up to 20% of the cost of your new build home so you only need a 5% cash deposit. Buyers then have a 75% mortgage to make up the rest, while the 20% equity loan is interest free for the first five years*.

Carmen continued: “After seeing Highfield Place we just knew it was right and - thanks to Help To Buy - we could buy sooner than we’d thought possible. After renting for such a long time, we’re all thrilled to finally be settled in our dream home. I can’t see us ever moving from here!”
