Giving your garden the wow factor

When you first move into a new home, it can be easy to focus purely on the interior: choosing colour schemes and furniture, positioning artwork and ornaments, and finding a place for everything.

However, as summer arrives, attention turns to the outdoors and, just as we’ve created inviting and impressive spaces inside our homes, we look to create calming oases and welcoming social spaces in our gardens too.

At Countryside, we’ve seen some wonderfully unique garden retreats created by our residents, usually based around one of the following garden features:

  • Summer houses – a summer house can provide a focal point to complement your garden’s theme, adding to its personality and character. Summer houses are versatile, not only offering an ideal centrepiece for your social gatherings, but also providing additional space for living, storage, exercise or hobbies.
  • Pergolas – with a vast variety of styles and sizes, there really is a pergola for every garden. A pergola serves multiple design functions, from adding height and interest to a space, to framing zones for dining or relaxing. With the right lighting and floral displays, they can become an enchanting centrepiece.
  • Tiki bars – some people may not want versatility; they want a social space designed purely for social purposes. A tiki bar, gin shack or garden saloon – whatever you choose to call it – will serve that exact purpose. However you choose to theme it, a well-stocked garden bar is there for one thing and one thing only, and that is to entertain.

Be warned though: once your friends experience your new garden retreat, the challenge will become how to enjoy your dream outdoor space in peace!
