Final building tops out at St Mary’s Island after 27 years of construction

After almost three decades, Countryside has now topped out on the final roof at St Mary’s Island.
Taking place at Azure, the last chapter of the new waterfront neighbourhood, representatives from both Countryside and Homes England came together to mark the occasion.
As Britain’s only planned new island community, St Mary’s Island is a development of national and regional significance. Located on the site of the former Royal Naval Dockyard, over the last three decades, the joint venture partnership between Countryside and Homes England has transformed the 150-acre former Royal Naval dockyard into a sustainable mixed-use community - delivering 1,700 new homes, alongside green spaces and public amenities.
Born from a shared vision between the partners, the aspiration for St Mary’s Island sought to provide much needed investment to the Chatham Maritime area and provide a range of high-quality homes. Throughout, plans have been thoughtfully considered to ensure the preservation of the Island and the Dockyards heritage, together helping to shape the unique character of the new neighbourhood.
Today, St Mary’s Island is a thriving community home to over 1600 residents, and there are now only a handful of homes remaining for sale at Azure – representing the final opportunity to secure a new home on the island. For more information, please visit www.countrysidepartnerships.com.
