Countryside customers, Dip and Deepika, moved into their home at our Wren Green development in Bamber Bridge in 2019 and we’ve been following them and their amazing interior design projects ever since.

When we spoke to Dip and Deepika last summer they were preparing for the arrival of their first child and gave us a tour of the impressive, safari-themed nursery they created! Fast forward a few months, and their beautiful baby boy Drishan is now six months old, so we caught up with them to find out how they are adjusting to life as a family, and what changes they have made to their home…

Big changes

Dip tells us: “Since welcoming our baby boy in July last year, the dynamic of how we use our home has changed a lot. We used to spend more late evenings in our bedroom watching TV or having a lie in, but of course we can't do that anymore as the baby is sleeping in the same room as us for his first six months! The good thing about the Dunham house type is that the master bedroom is quite spacious, so we have plenty of room to place our little one at the foot of our king size bed while not taking up too much room.

Little touches

“As we’ve been very busy with our new son, we haven’t had much time to get stuck into any DIY projects, but we have added some practical touches to help out - as when you have children you can never have enough storage! We decided to utilise the space above the water tank closet by adding in some slatted shelving with some wooden battens we got from our local timber yard. It's a good place to store additional nappies and odds and ends.

“We also fitted a four piece shelf to the kitchen under the Velux windows that spans the entire width of the kitchen. It gives us plenty of room to add in some nice family pictures and plants, and memorable ornaments from future holidays. The top and bottom of the shelf has also been fitted with a diffused LED strip to brighten up the place, and it really does help at night when it gets dark as there is less light coming into the kitchen from the Velux windows so it helps illuminate the worktop space.

Next steps

“We still have the third bedroom, downstairs bathroom and garden which we have yet to touch! For the third bedroom, I think we are going to wait to see if Drishan has a new brother or sister on the horizon before we do anything with that. But we are saving up and have some ideas for the garden which I think will come first.

“Deepika is still on maternity leave and has been spending more time in the new jungle baby room and the living room. We've managed to find a bench with a custom-made cushion top that fits into the lounge bay window perfectly. The bench also has four large soft felt storage buckets that we can keep all Drishan's toys in while still looking neat and tidy. The bay window has now become the little one's dedicated play space so we spend a lot of time there entertaining him.

“Drishan is almost six months old so we plan on moving him out of our bedroom for his sleep, and moving him into his bedroom full time which will be interesting to see how he takes to it. So far he's been loving spending time in there amongst the jungle scenery for his naps so hopefully it should be easy!”
