Countryside partners with Essex Police at RHS Hyde Hall Summer Flower Show 2022 to highlight the importance of safety and security at home

RHS Hyde Hall Summer Flower Show

Wednesday 3rd August 2022 saw the return of RHS Hyde Hall’s Summer Flower Show in Chelmsford, Essex. Working in partnership with Essex Police and Secured by Design - the official police security initiative that works to improve the security of buildings and their immediate surroundings, providing a recognised standard for all products that can deter and reduce crime - Countryside helped to deliver a ground floor house façade which was displayed within the ‘safe and secure’ show garden.

The ‘safe and secure’ show garden aimed to demonstrate and educate visitors on the safety gardens and nature can offer to make the home safer, alongside formal measures of security, by acting as the first line of defence to your home.

In order to effectively demonstrate this, Countryside delivered a ground floor house façade wall containing windows, a door and an outside lamp - reflective of Secured by Design certified developments. The show garden, which was located behind the wall, then incorporated innovative and affordable elements that could be used in any front or rear garden to deter opportunistic burglars, such as layered planting, gravel pathways or anti-climb fencing.

Working with Essex Police’s Design Out Crime unit on several projects, Countryside ensures its developments are built to Secured by Design specifications, installing accredited products to ensure safety and security for each home which are then reviewed by Essex Police.

Chris Bladon, Managing Director, Eastern Home Counties, Countryside said:

“We work very closely with the Essex Police to ensure our developments adhere to the highest standards of safety and security. The Design Out Crime Unit review our designs, visit our developments on a monthly basis and provide Secured by Design certificates for all homes on the approved sites. It’s a fantastic relationship to have and enables us to create places people love and feel safe.’

Stephen Armson-Smith, Designing Out Crime Officer, Essex Police, said:

‘Partnering with Countryside was the obvious choice when it came to this year’s RHS summer flower show. We’ve been working with the team through Secured By Design, ensuring their developments adhere to the required specifications for security, and we are thrilled to have been able to educate and highlight the role nature can play in securing your home thanks to Countryside’s generous contribution.’

Ian Le Gros, Site Manager at RHS Garden Hyde Hall, said:

‘This year’s show has been a great success. We’ve seen lots of visitors and the safe and secure garden has generated a great deal of interest in safety in the home. We are so grateful for Countryside who donated a wonderful illustrative house entrance façade into the garden, complete with windows and doors - it’s been a great team effort and we look forward to working with Countryside again in the future.’

Welcoming visitors from 10am, this year’s Summer Flower Show had a footfall of 27,301.

The show included 60 specialist plant nurseries and trade exhibits, talks and demonstrations where visitors received expert tips, alongside live music, beautiful plant displays and delicious food – all enjoyed within the beautiful surroundings of RHS Garden Hyde Hall.
