Bringing in the summer

Cushion

With June marking the official start of the summer, we have visions of warm sunshine, al-fresco dining, and a chance to relax in your garden with friends, family or simply a well-earned glass of your favourite tipple.

If you are lucky enough to be the owner of a Countryside property you will already be throwing open your French doors and enjoying the sun streaming through the impressive skylight windows in your stylish open-plan kitchen/dining/family room.

But whether you have made your move already or are waiting for the perfect Countryside home, here are our tips for bringing more of the summer into your home.

Summer bedding and throws

As you reduce the tog of your duvet, switch to summery bed linens. Pack away thick blankets and covers and swap them for light cotton or linen throws. Lighter colours and florals can give a room a fresh feel and help lighten the greyest of days.

Natural elements

Wicker, rattan, seagrass, and jute fabrics all bring an air of organic nature and a summery, bohemian vibe into your home.  Pair rattan or wicker accessories with lots of green flora to create a tropical feel, while large woven baskets can be used to clear the decks, providing useful storage or to tidy away children’s toys.

Summer colours

When considering summer colours for your home take inspiration from summer meadows and the colours you see in your own garden. Your summer colour palette should be cool and delicate with splashes of soft accent colours inspired by the natural world.

Summer plants

Whether you decide to sign up for a flower subscription, grow flowers from seed or simply hand cut a posy from your garden, nothing says summer like the scent and colour that flowers bring.

For beautiful scents and delicate blooms try hyacinths, sweet Williams, freesias or peonies as well as the more traditional lilies and roses.

Beach at home

The beach and summer go together like ice cream and jelly at a children’s party. Replace ornaments with bowls of shells or polished pebbles or create a nautical feel with a blue and white and coral décor to bring that seaside feel into your home
